In Case You Missed Monday

Another winning month:

  • Stocks closed out their sixth winning month in a row (3 for the Dow) as the flatline in oil prices continues to help stocks rebound from last week’s selloff. The Dow was an outperformer, as all but five components finished with a gain. And large-cap generally flexed its muscles, although not tech — the Nasdaq was essentially flat, as was the small-cap Russell 2000 Index. Silver prices rose 2.5% and are now back within another 2% of another 31-year high. The 10-year Treasury note traded flat, still yielding 3.41%.
  • After the closing bell, shares of Sonus Networks (NASDAQ:) jumped more than 25% after the company beat fourth-quarter earnings estimates and guided its revenue forecast higher for fiscal 2011. A123 Systems (NASDAQ:) fell 3% after hours following a fourth-quarter loss that was wider than expected, and Sotheby’s (NYSE:) shares slipped 2% despite the company beating fourth-quarter earnings expectations. The stock had set a 52-week high on Feb. 16.
  • On Tuesday, you’ll get the January figures on construction spending, the February ISM manufacturing survey, and assorted car sales.
