The iPhone text message bug includes some Arabic and a string of unicode. It can either freeze up a user’s texting services or completely shut down the device. It’s likely that the unicode is being read by iOS in such a way that it’s what is behind the shutdowns, reports Mashable.

According to , the glitch only works under certain circumstances. For example, it will only occur if users’ iPhones are locked when the message comes in and a notification is received. This means that the problem possibly has more to do with notifications than the messaging service.

There is a fix for the iPhone text message bug that the affected can use themselves, but it requires them to have access to a Mac with iMessage. Replying to the original sender of the message on this service will solve the issue. Apple knows of the problem and plans to release a fix in one of its updates, Mashable notes.
